Why we want to help out

It was world mental health day this week and we love the new ITV campaign that is currently being aired 'Get Britain Talking'

Children in the advert encourage us to spend some time talking and the NHS have released figures stating that nearly 40% of children have declining mental health, which is astounding. Our charity The Matthew Hackney Foundation has seen a phenomenal increase in requests for support.

The campaign has set the nation some 'homework', the link is here if you would like to have a look. This encourages our youngsters and their families to talk to each other more, whether it is over dinner, a game, playing, or out and about in nature. The homework states 'World Mental Health Day is a great excuse to have a chat, but talking is a tool we can use at any time to improve our mental wellness.'

I spoke recently to one of our amazing Counsellors who work with us at the Matthew Hackney Foundation. We were discussing the benefits of simply playing a simple board game with our children for just 20 minutes or so can really make such a difference in encouraging them to open up and talk about things that are bothering them. This got me thinking about how to help more children, especially as World Mental Health day was this week.

We have some amazing games, toys, accessories, puzzles and great quality clothing for children in our shop, so until Saturday 21st October, the beginning of half term, we are offering 50% off. We hope this will help you all to 'get talking' together, and have some fun too!!
